Students strengthen literacy skills through SAIL summer camp

Updated: Oct 19, 2018

July 24, 2018 - Summertime proved to be the season for hundreds of Duval County Public Schools students to sharpen their skills and get ahead in time for the new school year! Four DCPS schools hosted the SAIL (Supporting Academics and Igniting Learning) Summer Camp, which is part of a 3-year pilot program and collaboration between DCPS, the University of North Florida, and the Kids Hope Alliance.

Leaders say SAIL seeks to redefine summer camps and after-school programs with literacy-based learning and activities. Our video team captured some of the fun at Normandy Village Elementary, which ran the camp partnership with Communities in Schools. Arlington, Reynolds Lane, and Sallye B. Mathis Elementary schools also hosted the program.
